How to find a thesis

How can I borrow a copy of a thesis?

Previous Next

Follow these steps to borrow or obtain a thesis:

  1. Note all relevant details about the thesis:
    • author
    • title
    • year submitted
    • institution submitted to
  2. Check the library catalogue to see if Monash already holds a copy. A Monash staff member or PG student can make an inter-campus loan request for a microfiche copy of a Monash thesis which can be sent, on loan, to their campus library for consultation within the library. Remote students should contact Document delivery services to discuss what might be done to assist.
  3. Ask information desk staff to check Libraries Australia for Australian library holdings
  4. If eligible, make a Document delivery services request, ensuring that you supply as much detail about the thesis as possible. Document delivery services will either:
    • arrange to borrow a copy
    • arrange to purchase a copy, which will be added to the library's collection. This can take two to three months.
  5. In some cases, where a loan is not possible, and purchasing a copy is too expensive for the library to undertake, you may wish to purchase a copy yourself
