About this site

January 2006, this site is no longer updated. New tutorials are here.

This site has been written by Monash University librarians to teach the skills and tools needed to find information.

More tutorials and subject guides will be added in the near future. Your comments on the pages currently available are appreciated by the library, and can be sent via email.

All the tutorials are listed either under How to... or Subject Guides. How to... teaches you you how to do things, like use the catalogue or an electronic database. Subject Guides take you through the steps involved in finding information for a particular subject or course.

The essential steps section takes you through the basics of finding information. You can use the Search option to find where a term appears in the site, and the Glossary & Index to find definitions of the terms used and links to more detail about them.

To let you study tutorials without having to stay online each one is available for downloading and printing as a "single page" from the Print it page.

Questions about this site, or indeed any aspect of information seeking or Monash University Library, can be directed through the Contact the Library page. A list of the references consulted in the construction of this site is available for those who are interested in such things, as is a paper about the rationale behind the site.

Tip

This column will contain links to other useful pages and sites, as well as tips, tricks and quizzes.
