"More new materials would be great.
More electronic materials i.e. journals would be a valuable
tool."
"Books and resources more than adequate"
"The
library has an excellent collection of materials, however the availability
of newer materials sometimes seems limited. The problem of cross-campus
loans should not exist for students in faculties which are run across
several campuses - ie. there should be copies of relevant books at each
library.
"The Berwick staff are wonderful but the collection is
small."
"More copies"
"Great selection and number of
books"
"Online resources extremely good"

We
are spending more on the collection
The library will spend $12 million this year on the collection.
This is an increase of 12.4% on 2002. We are also continuing to make
every effort to ensure we get the best value for money when it comes
to buying resources, so we can buy more.
We are buying more resources in electronic format
Wherever possible the library is purchasing in an electronic
format resources that are highly used in print format. This means you
will be able to access the resource both on and off-campus from a
computer and it will not go missing or be recalled.
We re-subscribing to journals we have had to cancel in the past
In the past two years the library has acquired a wide range of
e-journals covering titles for all faculties. In many cases journals
cancelled in the past due to financial constraints have been
re-instated. We will continue to acquire new e-journals to enable
users to access them whichever campus they are on, or from home and
work.
We are making sure the money goes where it's needed most
We will look at the pattern of spending across campuses for
each faculty to ensure that new books and journals are where they are
most needed.
"Of the 16 university libraries that have asked
library users to rate their satisfaction with the collection, Monash
has the highest performance score. However this issue is always a
problem for libraries, simply because they can never provide
everything that everyone wants, all the time. Building a collection
that is responsive to the needs of students and research staff is one
of our highest priorities."
