"Start spending money on the libraries. Much of the material is very dated. Looks like the 70's was the last big splurge. At least you've gotten rid of those really ancient computers you had in the 80's. The books and ambience needs money."

We will be refurbishing all libraries

Monash University Library has a plan to roll out refurbishments and building upgrades across all of its branches in an effort to make the libraries more conducive to study. Comments offered in the client survey will inform that process.

We will refurbish Hargrave Andrew Library in 2004

The Hargrave Andrew Library was identified as the first of the branches to be upgraded. Refurbishment plans are currently in development and work is planned to commence in early 2004.

"This issue is a high priority for Monash University Library as we reflect on the age and size of library buildings and collections. Whilst this issue did not rank highly in importance, results do indicate room for improvement. Comments offered by users indicate a wide interpretation of what is conducive to study. For example, some library users told us that they wanted more group study areas; others said that we needed to provide more private study space. The nominal gap between importance and perception of performance may well be a reflection of the diverse views about what is conducive to study."
