Subject headings
To find items by subject in the library catalogue do an Advanced Search, select Browse subject headings and key in terms. For example:

- Arkley, Howard (Personal names of artists) Picasso, Pablo
- Art patronage
- Art psychology
- Art, Australian
- Art, Renaissance (or other periods eg. Medieval)
- Computer art
- Cubism (or other movements eg Surrealism)

- Humanism in Art
- Motion pictures - History
- Motion pictures, Japanese (Japanese films)
- National Gallery of Victoria (or other galleries or museums)
- Painting
- Photography, Artistic
- Portraits
- Postmodernism (Art)
- Sculpture
- Semiotics and the arts
Subheadings or extensions, for example, countries, relevant century, type of publication (catalogs, exhibitions, bibliographies etc) can be applied to subject headings to narrow the search. For example:
- Aboriginal Australians - Art - Exhibitions
- Art, Australian - 20th century
- Expressionism (Art) - Germany
- Motion pictures - Japan (for works on Japanese motion pictures)
- Photography, Artistic - Catalogs
