Reference works, dictionaries and encyclopaedias

Books such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias, directories and yearbooks are useful for definitions of terms and for brief factual information. For example:

A number of dictionaries of Slavic languages are held in the library. Dictionaries of Slavic languages are shelved at call numbers 491.7 and 491.8 (and extensions thereof). Some good dictionaries are:

• Collins Russian-English English-Russian dictionary
• English-Ukrainian dictionary
• Collins English-Polish dictionary

Dictionaries and encyclopedias of Slavic literatures are shelved at 840.03. A good one is Reference guide to Russian literature.

Start with Russkii biograficheskii slovar'. Works of individual biography can also be found in the library collections, search name keywords in the library catalogue.
