Selected databases, all disciplines

  • Current contents connect provides access to the tables of contents and bibliographic data from current issues of scholarly journals and books in the social sciences, arts and humanities and sciences subject areas. Its title reflects its value to politics students in that the database is updated weekly.
  • Expanded Academic ASAP indexes over 1500 journals including the full text of 520 journals. It includes many popular magazines but also indexes some of the mainstream politics journals. It includes references from 1980 and is updated weekly.
  • Factiva provides access to the full text of all major Australian newspapers including The Age, The Australian, The Australian Financial Review as well as global newspapers and news wires. It is updated daily.
  • International bibliography of the social sciences covers the social science disciplines of economics, sociology, politics and anthropology. It indexes all the major academic journals in political science. Includes references from 1951 onwards and is updated weekly. Current data is taken from 2400 selected international social science journals and approximately 7000 books per year. This index is also available in printed format in the Matheson Library Reference Collection at 016.32 I61. The printed copies are useful for browsing by subject.
  • JSTOR is intended as a comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature. Includes the full text of a range of journals covering a very significant range of years. Browse the list of subject areas for more information. Headings particularly relevant to politics are Asian Studies, Law, Middle East studies, philosophy, political science, public policy and administration, Slavic studies, and sociology.
  • Political science a SAGE full text collection. Includes the full text of 19 politics journals.
  • Web of knowledge indexes the contents of approximately 400 journals. The Library subscribes to many of these journals. It includes references from 1997 and also indexes book reviews.
  • Worldwide Political Science Abstracts provides citations, abstracts and indexing of the international serials literature in political science and its complementary fields including international relations, law and public policy. Approximately 1,250 serials titles are indexed from 1975 onward. Major areas of coverage include: comparative politics ; developing nations ; disarmament ; economic policy ; electoral systems ; environmental policy ; government/political systems ; history and theory of political science ; international relations/trade ; labor relations ; military policy ; methodology and research technology ; political behaviour ; political economy ; political psychology ; politics and the law ; politics and communication ; politics and religion ; politics and society ; public administration ; security and defence ; welfare systems.
