Relevant Australian government departments and agencies

ABARE (Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics) is an independent government economic research agency. The focus of ABARE's research are on policy issue analysis relating to minerals, energy, forestry, fisheries, trade and the environment. Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Publications

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) main role is to oversee the national competition policy reform programme and the prohibition of anti-competitive conduct in all businesses in Australia. Some of its publications are in full text. It has links on consumer information, pricing inquiry reports, product safety, etc.

The Australian Customs Service provides information on business guides to customs regulations such as importing/exporting goods and customs notices. Site can only be viewed using Internet Explorer.

AusIndustry is a government initiative aimed at enhancing the international competitiveness of Australian firms by providing business information and referral services. The site also provides current information on government tender programmes. It has an industry gateway site in the "Bizlink" menu.

Austrade (Australian Trade Commission). The major role of this federally funded agency is to provide up-to-date information to companies which are interested in exporting their products and services overseas. This site has many links to relevant marketing/exporting information such as trade statistics of countries, major market export opportunities, advice on how to export, links to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, publications, Australia's top trading partners, trade news, etc.

Business Entry Point is a comprehensive Australian site providing lots of business information such as how to register and start a business, licensing issues, e-commerce, business sites by states, online ABN registration, links to government tenders by states and much more.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), provides a range of trade, economic and socio-economic data on its " trade and economic statistics " link. Other links which relate to trade is the Economic Analytical Unit, an agency of the department which undertakes research analysis of major economic and political issues in Asia and the emerging markets.

The Productivity Commission is the federal government's principal advisory body relating to all aspects of microeconomic reforms, industry competition policies, conducting inquiries on the development and productivity of industries and regulatory policies.
