Legal encyclopaedias

Legal encyclopaedias comprise a narrative statement of the law of Australia organised by subject area and covering all nine jurisdictions. Statements of legal principles and propositions of substantive law are supported by references to primary authority (cases and legislation). There are two Australian legal encyclopaedias, Halsbury's Laws of Australia (Butterworths) and Laws of Australia (Lawbook). Both are available electronically and Halsbury's is also available in print in the Law Library Reference collection updated to 1999. Australian Current Law is used to update Halsbury's and Australian Legal Monthly Digest is used to update the Laws of Australia
