Connect to the university network using the Wired (Ethernet) connection

You may connect your laptop to the Monash network to access the web, email and the local Monash drives via the Wireless network, or via the Wired (Ethernet) network connections. If connecting to the network from the Matheson Library, West Reading Room follow the link given immediately below. For all other Victorian Monash libraries follow the instructions given on this page.

Matheson Library Wired (Ethernet) network access instructions are here

Ethernet patch leads and PCMCIA card with dongle are available at most computer shops. Your laptop may already have a PCMCIA card built in, so check your hardware configuration first (see 2. below). You may find that you can buy a PCMCIA card without a dongle, then the blue Ethernet cable can just plug directly into your laptop.

  2. You need to register your card address (you only have to do this once)

    For Windows 95, 98, Me:

    • go to Start

    • type cmd (or select MS-DOS from the Programs menu)

    Default Gateway 130.194.103.254
    • if you are using Windows 95 / 98 / Me, use the dropdown box to select your card, do not select your PPP adapter
    • write down your Ethernet / Adapter Address - numbers and letters only, with no hyphens.
  3. Now go to a computer connected to the internet
    • complete the registration procedure at a library or in the labs.
    • go to the registration page, you will need your Authcate password.
    • enter your Adapter Address as your Ethernet address, and your email address under contact information. You will have to wait for an hour before you can connect to the network.
  4. To connect to the network:
if you haven't done so already, insert your PCMCIA card and connect the dongle
