Library users survey 2009

"Opening hours meet my needs"

What you said: What the Library is doing about it:
Importance: 5.95/7
Performance: 5.12/7
Gap: 0.84

"Longer hours at Matheson (not just the Annexe)."

"The library should be open 24hours. There should be at least one library on campus that students have access to 24 hours. All the top ranked universities in Melbourne have a 24-hour library except for Monash."

"Extended opening hours on weekends would be extremely helpful even if only for a few weeks prior to exams."

  • We are reviewing opening hours this year
Recommendations, within budgetary requirements, will be considered for 2010. During 2009 we have extended the number of seats available in the Matheson Annexe by more than 100, and have trialled additional hours at Pharmacy and Gippsland. Over the last three years we have extended opening hours before and during exams and will consider these and other options as part of this year’s review.
  • We also consider 24 hour library opening
The key issues are security on campus, low usage of other 24 hour university study facilities and maximising the use of a finite budget.

"We recognise opening hours as a high priority for library users. As part of our regular reviews of opening hours we are looking at options to better meet the needs of users."
