"I find it hard to search through the online databases. I can tell that the university goes to great lengths to provide a wealth of information, but browsing through all the separate databases to find what I want is very hard."
"More electronic resources need to be available, a higher performance on key word searches and resources aren't always referenced according to the references given to students to research." |
- We are pushing the boundaries in resource discovery
Our Resource Discovery Project will include the ability to search the databases directly rather than through an intermediary. This will facilitate searching across multiple databases rather than separately browsing each one, thus improving the searching response time.
- We are strongly committed to providing access to electronic resources
More than 55% of the Library’s collection budget is currently spent on electronic resources. We now have subscriptions to over 900 online databases, approximately 37,000 e-journals and over 300,000 e-books. These figures will continue to grow. A new service has also been launched, the bX recommender service, which assists library users in discovering scholarly articles of potential interest.
"There is now a very large and diverse electronic collection available that can be difficult to navigate. This necessitates simple and clear access pathways for users. New and exciting ways for users to access these materials have been identified through the Library’s Resource Discovery project and will be implemented in stages."
