Library users survey 2007

"The library collection is adequate for my needs"

What you said: What the Library is doing about it:
Importance: 6.36/7
Performance: 5.13/7
Gap: 1.23

“Online articles from older journal issues should be also subscribed to.”

“I would like to know if there are options to make suggestions to the library to include new books or new editions of some books. Also, is there any way of students recommending books for the libraries to purchase? Make it easier to suggest books to buy”

“The only problem I have encountered is with new books seeming to take a long time to make their way through the cataloguing system”

“I am unable to access hard copy theses held at a Clayton library and must travel to Melbourne to view them in person. I would like them to be available on Reserve at my branch. Alternatively, resources are needed to digitise all theses and make them available on-line”

  • We are continually improving our journal collection
Many journals have only been placed online in recent years and the publishers are just now digitising earlier issues. The Library has been buying these digital backsets extensively as they become available.
  • We are striving to improve timely access to collections
The Library processes tens of thousands of books that we acquire annually. If any book listed as received in the catalogue is required urgently by a staff member or a student they can make a Loan Request through the catalogue. The book will be processed promptly and the requester alerted to collect it.
  • We are digitising theses to facilitate access
The Library has an archival responsibility to protect Monash theses but has also embarked on a policy of digitising theses and after 2008 the majority of new theses will be available online.

“The Library is currently reviewing the formula for the purchase of prescribed and recommended texts as part of a review of the policy and processes around ensuring timely access to collections.”
