Library user's survey 2005

"Prompt corrective action is taken regarding missing books and journals"

What you said: What the library is doing about it:
Importance: 5.63/7
Performance: 4.46/7
Gap: 1.17

"Missing books are replaced TOO SLOWLY, I’ll probably graduate by the time the book is replaced."

"I often find books in the wrong spot on the shelves – makes it difficult to find what you want."

"Looking for books that are in the catalogue but known to be lost is very frustrating.."

  • The library has reviewed the lost and missing books replacement procedures.
    • With regular updating the catalogue will no longer list items that are known to be permanently lost.
    • Books missing from the catalogue will either be re-ordered or withdrawn from the collection.
    • A key performance indicator for the library is that items will be accurately re-shelved within 24 hours of return.

"As the collection continues to outgrow the physical shelving space so a level of frustration occurs amongst library users trying to find items on overcrowded shelves.  Library staff now respond by email to all library users who file a missing book claim.  Library procedures to assist users, include requesting a copy from another branch library or placing an urgent order.  Perception of the library’s performance has improved from a gap of 1.46 in 2002/2003 to a gap of only 1.17 in 2004/5."
