SECTION B: Plan for 2006-2008KEY AREA 5: Scholarly communication initiativesMonash University Library is exploring new technologies to transform scholarly communication and improve exposure and management of scholarly research output. 5.1 Monash University ePressMonash University ePress was established in 2003 as an initiative that would lead the way in using innovative technology to publish scholarly materials. Objective 5.1: To promote the best of Monash University’s research activities and intellectual capital through a sustainable electronic publishing model.
5.2 ARROWAustralian Research Repositories Online to the World (ARROW) is a national digital repository project. Monash University is the lead agency in the consortium developing the repository functionality. Monash has mandated the electronic submission of doctoral theses from 2005 on, has retrospectively digitized all of the theses from 2000 on (1,200 theses) and has loaded the working papers from the Faculty of Business and Economics into the repository. In addition, more than 1,425 photographs from the Centre for Gippsland Studies have been loaded and the patents granted collection is being digitised. The Library is working with the Research Office to use the ARROW repository to provide the evidence to support Monash’s Research Quality Framework submissions in 2007. Objective 5.2: To manage and expose higher education research output, including publications, and resources such as image collections.
