Notes: Francesco Guicciardini, a historian and statesman, born in Florence, 1483; died there, 23 May, 1540 was a skilled politician and rendered his services to the Florentine Republic of the Medici and popes. He distinguished himself by his defence of Parma against the French in 1521. His political ideas were born out of the problems affecting the Republic. This is a reproduction of his letters, originally published by Vecchioni in Aquila (Italy) in 1925.
