Welcome new students for 2009!

The basics:

• Your Monash ID card lets you borrow from all eight branches of the Monash University Library.

• www.lib.monash.edu is your access point to the catalogue and online resources. These resources can also be accessed via the library tab of the my.monash portal.

• Your Monash Authcate account gives you access to online databases, journals and books (If you have not done so, register for an Authcate account).

• Your information research and learning skills are key to your academic success at Monash.  The Library offers classes and resources which enable you to save time and be more effective in your learning and research.

• The Opening hours card is a handy pocket calendar that tells you when the library is open throughout the year. The Managing your loans card tells you how much and where you can borrow as well as tips on borrowing.

• Library staff are here to help. You can get help in person, online, via ask.monash or over the phone. Find out more about help using the library.

What to do first:

1. Get your ID card.
2. Register for a Monash computer account so you can access library resources.
3. Familiarise yourself with the library by taking a library tour or class.

On-campus students:

Take a library class or tour during orientation week. Getting to know your library now will help you out when it comes to “crunch time” and that first assignment is due. Use the library’s online class booking system to book into a class at a time and date that suits you. Library orientation classes are also listed in the eOrientation planner.

Off-campus students:

Familiarise yourself with library services for off-campus students. If you are located outside of the Melbourne metropolitan area, you can Free-call 1800 331 194 to find out more. Try to get to a library class or tour at your nearest campus.
