Citing and referencing - how to do it right

New students embarking on their first university assignments can get help with citing and referencing from a new library online tutorial.

“Many students hit their first academic hurdle around this time of year when it comes to acknowledging sources in their assignments,” said the library’s Information Literacy and Reference librarian, Vivienne Bernath.

Ms Bernath said knowing why they must cite sources, what has to be referenced and particularly how to write citations was often confusing to new students as various departments and lecturers recommend different styles.

“With this tutorial we aim to help students understand why acknowledging sources is important and how to correctly cite a reference in the various styles they are likely to be required to follow.”
