Search multiple databases at once!

Ever wished you could search several databases at the same time, using just the one search interface? A trial allowing postgraduates and staff from selected faculties to do just that is currently underway.

The single search interface, available at www.lib.monash.edu.au/portal/, is designed to allow for simultaneous searching of multiple databases, with links to Monash’s full text holdings online.

The library is seeking comment particularly from postgraduate students and staff of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Business and Economics.

“While there are resources available in all areas, for the purposes of the trial the main emphasis is on resources for these two faculties, so we have most key resources used by these faculties set up for multi-searching,” said Digital Resources Librarian, David Groenewegen.

“We are interested in the responses from these faculties and from all users, who will be directed to an online survey when they log out.”

If the trial is successful, undergraduate access to the same cross-database multi-search facility will be offered in 2005.

Monash University Library is able to offer this service because of its membership and participation in the Australian Academic and Research Library Network (AARLIN) consortium.

AARLIN is funded by the Australian Research Council and the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training.
