Notes:  The Hickleton papers form an archive which has accumulated naturally through the activities, public and private, or successive members of the Wood family of Hickleton and Garrowby, York.

The documents were kept at Hickleton Hall until 1957 when the Earl of Halifax moved them to the muniment Room which he had prepared at Garrowby.  This microfilm collection has been prepared from the original documents in the Muniment Room at Garrowby.

Reel 1 includes a reel by reel guide to items in the collection and a cross index to correspondents and the subjects of their letters.  This has been copied and bound.
