Collection overview

Music related materials feature strongly in the Music and Multimedia Collection, including musicology, ethnomusicology, Australian studies and performance. Of particular note are the specialist music archives.

There are also collection strengths in history, literature, visual culture, communication, Asian studies, Australian studies, anthropology, performance studies, philosophy, politics, women's studies, Australian and overseas newspapers.

The multimedia aspect of the collection comprises materials produced in a variety of media types. These include:

  • Microforms
    Including journals, newspapers, Monash University theses and educational resources.
  • Music scores
    Including miniature study scores, performing scores and collected editions of major composers.
  • Sound recordings
    Including CD, audio cassette and vinyl formats and a substantial archive of ethnomusicology sound recordings.
  • Videos and DVDs
    Including foreign language classics, feature films, music and dance, documentaries and significant television programs.
  • CD-ROMs
    Including English literature and poetry, history, music, art, cinema, politics and Asian language.
  • Kits
    Kits of materials in multiple media formats, both music related and instructional.

See visiting and searching for information on using the collection, some materials have restricted borrowing conditions. A range of multimedia listening and viewing facilities are also available.
