Serials information hot off the database

When an issue of a journal title arrives, it is now directly entered onto the databases SESAME2, the libraries online catalogue. The new system makes it possible to look up a serial title in the online catalogue to find out which is the most recent issue the library holds.

This is a major advancement as current serials information can at last be easily found. Serial records on SESAME2 now show the holdings, location, latest issue received, issues at binding, bound volumes on loan and bound volumes on the shelves.

HOW TO LOCATE SERIALS INFORMATION

To find out information on the location and current status of serials you need to :-

Type : TI followed by the first four words of the title, in

exact order
or

Type : TT then the key word from the title.

Type : DI and then the number of the item in the list you require.

Type : DSD to display the current status of the title you require.

Type : DSD to display the current status of the title you require.

The availability of current issues should be listed as NO CK OUT (no check out) as current unbound titles are not available for loan.

NOTE:- The message M-SER-BIND indicates that an issue you require is being bound.

You can omit the DSD step if you only want details of current holdings.

not all the library's holdings of bound volumes of serials nor all microforms will be listed on the SESAME2 screen as yet so it is worth checking the printed list "Periodicals in Monash Libraries" when in doubt.
