The lemon farm / Martin Boyd. (New York : W.W. Norton, 1936)

Martin Boyd was born in Lucerne, Switzerland but spent his childhood in Victoria. His family were proud of their European cultural heritage and this informs much of his work. He served in the First World War an experience which had a profound effect on him. Pacifism and the horrors of the war feature in some of his best novels. His earliest works were written under the pseudonym Martin Mills. Dearest Idol appeared only in the US edition, under the pen-name Walter Beckett. The Lemon farm was first published in England by Dent in 1935.
