OVID
These instructions describe how to download references from the following
OVID databases:
- AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine)
- Biological Abstracts
- CINAHL
- EBM Reviews (all databases)
- GeoRef
- Health and Psychosocial Instruments
- Journals@Ovid Full Text
- OVID Medline
- OVID MEDLINE in-process & other non-indexed citations (formerly
Pre-Medline)
- PsycINFO
First check Filter and
connection files for updated filter or connection files.
Direct export
- Mark the records you wish to download

- From Results Manager, select the following:
- Result Format: Direct Export
- Fields: Complete Reference
- Results: Selected Results
- Action: Save
- Endnote should launch automatically
- Select a library and click Open. The references
should now be displayed in a separate window.
Special comments
If prompted for a filter select appropriate filter for the database
eg Medline(OVID) for Medline
Import via filter file
- Select desired records
- From Results Manager select the following options:
- Results: Selected Results
- Fields: Complete Reference
- Result Format: Reprint/Medlars
- Action: Save
- Select appropriate option from menu (ie Windows, Macintosh, Unix
linefeeds) and select Continue
- Save records as a text file (eg cites.txt)
- Open EndNote program and a library (File-Open)
- From the menu bar, select File-Import
- An Import box opens:
- Import data file: select Choose File and select
file from Step 5
- Import Option: pull down menu and select Other filters.
Select appropriate filter eg Medline (OVID); CINAHL(OVID) etc
- Duplicates: select appropriate option from pull down menu
- Text Translation: leave option as No Translation
- Select Import
Connecting from EndNote to OVID
Direct Connection with OVID databases is generally not recommended.
You will need to download relevant connection
files customised for Monash users.
- From the EndNote menu, select Tools-Online
search - New search. Note: in ENX and earlier
versions select Tools-Connect - Connect
- Select the appropriate connection file from the list and select Choose.
In ENX and earlier versions select Connect. The EndNote
search page opens
- Perform the search. When a search is finished a Confirm Remote
Search textbox opens with details of the results. Select OK.
- References are now displayed. Select required reference/s to transfer
into an EndNote library
- Select the Copy # References To button. Select the
desired library from the dropdown menu. The references are now transferred
into the library
- Select X at the top right of the search screen and OK which
discards the temporary references and closes the connection.
