Book description
This paper addresses the history of Afghanistani storytelling from about the 5th century ECE to the present era, as well as its forms and major works.  Understanding the nature of 'Afghanistani literature' before the formation of nation states in the 19th century required us to position the literature of 'Afghanistan' in a cultural paradigm that bears no relationship to the geographical and political boundaries that define modern nation states.  Rather, the paradigm used in this paper is that of a culturally continuous region based on linguistic and literary structures and achievements.
