Book description
As Damien Cheong has correctly brought out in his monograph, 'The
study of Chinese secret societies or triads is a challenging and fascinating
endeavour'. In previous times, the activities of the triad societies
were largely shrouded in mystery and little was known about them. In
more recent times, however, the situation has changed radically and many
aspects of their activities have been exposed to public gaze and the aura of
mystery about them has largely been removed. Damien Cheong's monograph
dealing with triad activities in contemporary Hong Kong, and the efforts
that are being made to bring them under control by the Hong Kong
authorities, forms an important contribution to the literqture.
