Book description
This book from the eponymous exhibition is about the timelessness
of the art of composition. Underlying structures unify Crossley's
technical work and his photographs. Does it prove that mathematics and
photography are the same thing? Perhaps they are both the art of
creating structures. The exhibition presents more than seventy
photographs. Crossley combines science and art, printing half the
photographs himself. Magic and religion have their place too. St
Paul's Cathedral leads to the Islamic Alhambra of Granada and the Temple of
Heaven in Beijing, then back to the Australian bush and (very) human beings.
The photographs are intimate and insightful portraits and portrayals.
The fifty years blend seamlessly, vintage prints adjoin this year's.
Yet life and it's passing are constantly preset. Fifty years of
photography : this is an exhibition of a lifetime.
