Book description
This catalogue lists over 400 items held in the History of
Medicine Library's collection published prior to 1801, and is a valuable
resource for those interested in the history of health sciences.
Bibliographic and institutional material is recorded for each item, where
applicable, tracing the provenance of the material. References are
made to listings in 13 other bibliographies, creating a complete picture of
the significance of these items in the medico-historical and bibliographic
field.
About the authors
Peter Dobrovits has been a librarian for many years. He
lectured on the making and history of books at the Sydney Technical
College. At the time of his retirement he was deputy university
librarian (Technical Services) at the University of New South Wales.
Since then he has worked in several libraries on cataloguing rare items,
as well as helping to produce catalogues for an antiquarian bookseller.
Professor Wallace Kirsop taught in the French Studies
program at Monash University from 1962 to 1998 - special fields:
XVIth and XVIIth century literature; civilization (especially the
history of Paris); bibliography and book history. He was
Editor of the
Australian Journal of French Studies
since 1968 (retired in 2003) and is Director of the
Centre
for the Book in the School of English,
Communications and Performance Studies.
Bryan Gandevia, respiratory physician and medical
historian, had enthusiasm for books and libraries, which led
to the improvement of the coverage of medical history in
many libraries.
