Book description
This full-colour handbook highlights the rich & extensive
collection of antiquities that is to be found in the National Gallery of
Victoria. Numbering over 2000 objects, the collection ranges in date from
the 5th millenium BC through to the 16th century AD. It includes works from
Egypt, the Near East, the Graeco-Roman world and the Pre-Columbian cultures
of Mesoamerica. This publication contains over one hundred colour images, a
Ancient Civilizations in the International Collections of the National
Gallery of Victoria is one of a new set of publications that celebrate
the opening of the refurbished galleries at St Kilda Road, NGV
International. Each of these volumes explores a different aspect of the
National Gallery of Victoria's International collection, highlighting not
only the richness and diversity of our holdings, but also the extraordinary
generosity of the patrons and supporters who have presented so many
