Domestic violence in Australia is a useful up-to-date text that
provides the law on domestic violence in the States and Territories of
Australia. It considers the extent of family violence, some of the causes
and why women often do not leave violent relationships. It explores the
criminal law responses, the role of police and the various protective orders
available as well as providing useful resources such as Centrelink entitlements
and a list of places where support and advice is available.
About the Author
Dr. Renata Alexander is a senior lecturer in the Law Faculty at Monash University. She is also currently a barrister and a volunteer lawyer at the St Kilda Community Legal Service where she has volunteered since 1975. She has published widely on family violence.
