Wine from the hills : Australia's Pyrenees region David Dunstan Published by Arcadia (2001) |
Book description
This is the story of the vignerons of the Pyrenees, of
their spectacular vineyards and heroic wines. This is an area of Victoria, named after
the mountain range that separates France and Spain, which produces rich, dry red wines.
In 1992,
David Dunstan was commissioned by the Pyrenees Vignerons Association (PVA) to
record the history of wine production in the Pyrenees. After a lengthy
research period, David produced Wines and Winemakers of the Pyrenees
– The Natural Garden to Victoria, a work encompassing both the post
gold era of the late nineteenth century, and the ‘renaissance’ period
pioneered by Blue Pyrenees Estate and commencing in the 1960’s.
With the continued development of established wineries, and the
proliferation of new ones post 1992, meant that Dr. Dunstan’s coverage no longer provided
a comprehensive account of winemakers and winemaking activity within the area.
Consequently David was commissioned once again by the PVA in 2000 to revise and
update his original edition which has resulted in Wine from the Hills.
