Banking law and the financial system in Australia (5th ed.) W.S. Weerasooria Published by Butterworths (2000) |
Book description
The 5th edition of this well-established text has been completely rewritten. Chapters 1 - 9 of the text are entirely new and outline in depth the radical changes effected by the government's implementation of the recent Wallis Financial System Inquiry. The updated text also outlines the new regulatory institutions established to control financial institutions, such as the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). Equally important, the new text deals with the radical changes made to Australia's payment, clearance and settlement systems such as the establishment of the Payments System Board and the introduction by the Reserve Bank of the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system. Apart from outlining the developments in electronic commerce and electronic and internet banking, this new edition also has an entirely new chapter on the public image of banks and examines consumer issues and the social obligations of banks to the community as a whole.
